~Seamstress Hesitation~

Although I would hardly call myself a seamstress, I couldn't think of another way to put it. You see, I finally bought some cloth to make a new dress for myself. I haven't made a dress of any kind for 8 years... So I dug out the old pattern. Washed and ironed the fabric. Bought coordinating thread. And that is as far as I've gotten. I'm afraid to make the first cut with the scissors. What if after all this work, and all this time I don't like it? I loved the last one I made, I wore it right out. I've spent some time looking at patterns online and with the vast amount of them it got overwhelming. Sometime I will have to put the effort into bookmarking new patterns and then buy a couple at a time and try them out. For now, I have one. Oh, I know enough about sewing to be able to make adjustments to patterns to suit my taste, but I am far from an expert. I think the sewing wizard genes from my Grandmother and aunts skipped me. Well, I will get all the other work done around here and maybe tonight I will have enough courage to cut it out.

Graduation Day!

Our Red Star hens started to roost on the sides of the brooder and flying around the cellar, so yesterday was graduation day! Out to the barn they went! They are just over 5 weeks old, about 15 more weeks to go, we should start getting some eggs in September! I can't wait. There just is no comparing "store" eggs with farm fresh eggs.
The girls were a little leery of their new digs, I think all the space startled them a little. When they settle in I will start to introduce the older hens and eventually incorporate them into my free range flock.
This is Fluffanutter. She just had to wander in to see what all the fuss was about! She is my oldest BLRW, about 7 years old I think.
We had some wild turkeys visit us in the upper field the other day. I looked through the scope to see what we had. Two jakes and a hen. After watching them walk across the field and back again, they disappeared into the woods. Then after looking up the laws, hunting times and such, I find out I could have blasted one of them for supper! Since finding this out, I have not seen them, of course. Here is a jake, hunkered down in the grass after hearing me walk around.

We have seen a lot of wildlife on our property. I have yet to see a bear though...
Blackberries and cream with a sprinkle of sugar for a special dessert...
 Mmmm!
 Playing trucks and climbing stairs!
Lots of humming birds. I had about 5-6 males fighting over the feeders one night. Today I saw my first female, she was a lot more timid than the males.
Double rainbow on Thursday, can you see it?
 Beautiful colors.
Little Boy, sporting a cowprint cloth diaper cover.
Big Boy fell asleep with Daddy
Then Little Boy's turn! Lol.
Fired up the beast this weekend....
 Bacon cheese burgers....
with grilled mushrooms and onions-oh yeah!

Look who started standing up in the playpen! Lots of growing around here!
Good day to wash bedding. I love the look of quilts on the line.
Friday Darlin' came home with some grape plants. I just never know what he is going to bring home, Lol! So here is the start of our vineyard...Elvira grapes:

 Blueberry bushes...
They don't look like much now, but should be greening up soon.
Our strawberry plants are looking robust lately...
White Henry and Blackie hanging out in the shade...

Wow, what a long post. Lots of pictures to catch up on! I hope you have a good day! Call me, maybe? Ha,ha.

Visits From The Gang

My sisters came over for a visit last week. Here is everyone at breakfast:
Big Boy is not in a good mood in this picture...
Chocolate chip pancakes, scrapple, eggs and melted cheese, yum!
This week my brothers came over and we had "grill night". Corn on the cob, steak and potato/carrot/onion packets.

We put up my humming bird feeders and within a couple  hours we had little visitors!
They are so fast and it was getting dark, not the best pictures but they are cute!
In the morning, waiting for the coffee to perk...

Herbs from my Darling. I think I'm going to keep most of these in the kitchen, and have an herb bed outside also. I've got to get some pots to transplant them into. I love cooking with fresh herbs.
 Where's the coffee?
Have a good day everyone!

The Car Wash

Big Boy wanted to help Mama do the dishes....

So Mama did the actual dishes and Big Boy washed his trucks, and Little Boy's plate.
A beautiful Fuschia from my Darlin'.

We planted our strawberries...

48 plants, hopefully with some tender loving care, there will be ample berries next year to put up and share. (you pick the blossoms off the first year to produce a ruggeder plant)
Red Carnation from chruch for Mother's Day
White Henry out grazing. Hope to put up a garden fence this weekend to keep critters out.
